Hart Cemetery New Bluff Springs Cemetery
by Vera (Lane) Reeves velane@centurytel.net
This list includes the information from the marked stones in the present Hart
Cemetery plus the names listed by the U. S. Engineers that were moved from the
Bluff Springs Cemetery in the Norfork Dam Basin in the early 1940s. There were
33 graves moved from Bluff Springs Cemetery thats counting the 14 unknowns.
There were three graves moved from the Herron Cemetery to the Hart Cemetery, two
were unknowns. Five of the graves in the Bluff Springs Cemetery were moved to
the Mountain Home Cemetery and you will find their names at the end of this
list. Of the
graves moved I was not able to find any marked stones for any of them other than
the Hollands
At present there is no name posted for this cemetery located on Baxter County
Road 62 just off Highway 5 South. Cemetery is in bad shape, stones broken and
weeds waist high. There is no fence on the west side where there is a small
landing strip. In the north east corner just inside the fence is a Historical
Marker, which reads:
Old Military Road
About 1800 near this spot white man established the first trail from east to
west across Baxter County. Later some of the Cherokee Indians were moved to
Oklahoma using this route which was known as the Trail of Tears.
